From the story of Linux to systemd, networking, and shell scripting. 20 lessons across 7 phases, with a browser-side terminal sandbox on the hands-on lessons.
Learn Linux by using the shell: files, permissions, services, networking, and small terminal demos.
Linux (Ubuntu) is a lesson-based walkthrough of the system from the shell up: pipes and redirection, the filesystem hierarchy, permissions, processes, cron, and systemd unit files. Lessons are grouped into ordered phases on the landing page, and each one pairs short prose with browser-side terminal demos so commands can be tried without leaving the page.
The curriculum was originally a Rust+WASM course in the sbl-rust-attic, ported to Astro+MDX in May 2026 during the Rust retirement. Start at lesson one for the shell basics, or jump to the glossary to look up a specific command or concept before diving in.
